Throughout our history, we’ve installed hundreds of gutters. It’s natural that our customers ask questions about caring for and maintaining their gutters, and we pride ourselves on sharing our knowledge with them.

There’s always that moment when you wish you’d asked about something when it’s too late to do so. With that in mind, we hope to eliminate some frustration by putting together a list of commonly asked questions and answers about caring for your gutter.

How Often Does My Gutter Need Cleaning?

As a minimum, we recommend cleaning the gutter twice per year. The most ideal times are during the autumn and during the spring. However, if your gutters are located in a place that is susceptible to debris, such as beneath a tree, then you will likely need to clear your gutter more often. Remember that it’s vital to keep your gutters clean to prevent structural damage, mould, and even infestation.

How Can I Tell If My Gutter Is Blocked?

We have a blog post dedicated to this topic. However, if you would prefer a quick run down, some signs of a blocked gutter are:

  • Noticeable vegetation protruding from the gutter
  • Animals congregating around the gutter
  • Overflow during and after rainfall

As a rule, you will want to make sure that your gutter is cleaned before you start noticing these signs. This will ensure that your gutter stays in top shape.

How Do I Clean My Gutters?

There are many ways you can clean your gutters. An efficient way to clean is by using a stable ladder to climb to the gutter. Then scoop out the largest pieces of debris with your hands and flush any remaining debris with a hose. There are also a number of power tools on the market if you prefer not to get your hands dirty.
